Conclusion questions
1. Describe the objectives of this project in your own words.
The purpose of this project is to create a machine that is capable of lifting up an object. You need to create a code that is capable of programming the machine to move the cable, whether as to lift the object up or down. In addition, an emergency stop button must be added.
2. What were the most difficult parts of the problem? Describe the difficulties you had with these problems.
The most difficult problems were the coding. We had a bit of trouble with the emergency stop by pressing both the button switch and the limit switch. We were able to solve it by limiting the emergency stop to the button switch when lifting and the limit switch when lowering.
3. List and describe two features that were not part of the design problem that could be added to improve your design.
The Optical Shaft Encoder was something that we could've used to better our range in rotation as to how far the spindle rotated. We did not use it as it was until the machine was finished that we noticed it would have been pretty helpful. It would have been easier to have a spindle that was big enough so that one rotation would be one inch in length. Sadly, it wasn't so we had to config the program so that 1 inch would be a certain amount of rotations.
4. Describe how your design and program worked during the official test? Was your design successful? Why or why not?
During our official testing, our machine worked perfectly. The design was successful as all of the programming we put into the machine worked.
5. Describe some things you learned during this project.
I have already learned coding in my computer science classes so it wasn't that hard. In addition, building the machine wasn't all that complicated. Overall, there wasn't much that I could learn in this project but I can say that I learned that with our machine, gravity is a big factor in the length the cable moves even if the number of rotations programmed in is right.
